Cyclic Steps Created by Flowing Water on Ice Surface

چکیده

The interface between ice and fluid can become unstable devolve into cyclic steps bounded by hydraulic jumps. These are created flowing water or wind over the surface. This study presents an analytical model to reproduce We apply four governing equations: momentum equation, continuity heat transfer equation in water, energy balance (the Stefan equation). After calculation, we generate variations depth-averaged temperature, velocity, elevation one step wavelength. also understand formation process how capacity of air Froude number normal flow condition influence results obtained analysis compared with experimental observations validate our model.

The Surface Diffusion Length of Water Molecules on Faceted Ice: A Reanalysis of “Roles of Surface/Volume Diffusion in the Growth Kinetics of Elementary Spiral Steps on Ice Basal Faces Grown from Water Vapor,” by Asakawa et al

We reanalyzed the measurements made by Asakawa et al. [1] of the growth velocities of singlemolecule-high steps on basal ice surfaces, as we believe the authors made a number of incorrect assumptions regarding ice growth parameters and bulk diffusion in their experiments. Applying what we believe are more accurate assumptions, we used the data in [1] to derive a surface diffusion length of xs ≈...

Evidence for the exposure of water ice on Titan's surface.

The smoggy stratosphere of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, veils its surface from view, except at narrow wavelengths centered at 0.83, 0.94, 1.07, 1.28, 1.58, 2.0, 2.9, and 5.0 micrometers. We derived a spectrum of Titan's surface within these "windows" and detected features characteristic of water ice. Therefore, despite the hundreds of meters of organic liquids and solids hypothesized to exist ...

Land use impacts on surface water quality by statistical approaches

Surface waters are the most important economic resource for humans which provide water for agricultural, industrial and anthropogenic activities. Surface water quality plays vital role in protecting aquatic ecosystems. Unplanned urbanization, intense agricultural activities and deforestation are positively associated with carbon, nitrogen and phosphorous related water quality parameters. Multip...

Marangoni forces created by surface plasmon decay.

We present optical microfluidic manipulation of silicone oil and glycerol via surface tension driven forces sustained by surface plasmon deexcitation energy. The phonon energy associated with the decaying optically excited surface plasmons in a thin gold foil creates thermal gradients capable of actuating fluid flows. Spectral dependence of the plasmon decay length and control of optical beam c...

Elementary steps at the surface of ice crystals visualized by advanced optical microscopy.

Due to the abundance of ice on earth, the phase transition of ice plays crucially important roles in various phenomena in nature. Hence, the molecular-level understanding of ice crystal surfaces holds the key to unlocking the secrets of a number of fields. In this study we demonstrate, by laser confocal microscopy combined with differential interference contrast microscopy, that elementary step...
